Bass Coast Weekend – Sat 21st and Sun 22nd Nov

Bass Coast Rail Trail Kilcunda 2008-09
Bass Coast Rail Trail at Kilcunda

Next weekend will be our Annual Bass Coast weekend and we invite you all to be a part of it. This is a fantastic way to experience some of the best cycling and walking available in Victoria.

On the Saturday 21st November we will be riding along the Bunurong Coast Route and the Bass Coast Rail Trail. There are two start points to cater for riders of different levels of experience. Those wanting a long ride of around 75 km should meet in Inverloch for a start at 10 am. The meeting point will be at 26 Ullathornes Rd, Inverloch. We will then ride to the coast and follow it all the way to Cape Paterson. The ride then turns inland and heads to Wonthaggi.

Those that want a shorter ride of around 30 km should proceed directly to Wontaggi and wait at the old Wonthaggi Railway Station for the first group to arrive (probably around 11.45am). Both groups will then ride the Bass Coast Rail Trail to Anderson before returning to Kilcunda for lunch.

After lunch all riders will ride back along the trail to Wonthaggi. Those that started here can then finish their ride. Those that started in Inverloch will follow the shorter direct route back to the start.

After the ride all are invited to join us for a social BBQ at Inverloch. BYO meat and drinks, all else will be provided. It would also help to bring along a couple of folding chairs as seating will be limited.

On the Sunday 22nd November we will be walking the spectacular George Bass Coastal walk from Punchbowl to Kilcunda. You will need to bring along comfortable walking shoes, hat and sunscreen. We plan to stop for lunch somewhere along the way so please pack your picnic lunch and drinks in a backpack.

The walk finishes at Kilcunda and we will do some car pooling to get all drivers back to their vehicles at Punchbowl. We will also be stopping for coffee at Kilcunda.

The meeting point for the walk will be the car park at the top of the hill at Anderson. This is where the old turn off to Philip Island is. Please be at this spot by 10.00 am so that we can arrange the car pool. We would like to start the walk itself by 10.30 am.
