Great Southern Rail Trail
The Great Southern Rail Trail is one of Victoria’s finest regional rail trails. This is you chance to ride it for yourself and you can choose the length of ride you wish to do.
The first start point will be Leongatha (the actual start of the Great Southern Rail Trail). You will need to be at the start of the trail in Holt St, Leongatha in time for a 9.30 am start.
Riders will then out along the trail towards Koonwarra,Meeniyan and Fish Creek, on th way to Foster. Those that do not wish to ride from Leongatha should wait at either Koonwarra, Meeinyan or Fish Creek and join the peloton as it passes through.
Those that ride the full distance from Leongatha to Foster and back will be riding around 90 km. Starting at Koonwarra will reduce the ride to around 76 km, starting at Meeniyan the distance will be about 60 km and starting from Fish Creek the ride will only be about 25 km return.
The approximate time for the alternate start points will be Koonwarra – 10 am, Meeniyan 10.30 am, Fish Creek 11.30 am. These times are only guesses as the actual time will depend on the speed of the peloton. You will need to just wait till the group arrives.
The group will then ride over the Hoddle Range, stopping at the top to admire the glorious views down over Wilsons Prom, before continuing the ride to Foster. That will be our lunch stop before riding back to our starting points.
All those who are planning to take part should let me know their intended start location by Friday evening.
