Anzac Day Ride – Monday April 25th – Federation Trail
On Anzac Day 2016 28 Ghostriders enjoyed delightful cycling conditions to explore the Federation Trail from Newport to Werribee and back again. After parking at The Strand in Newport we managed to find our way to the start of the trail thanks to Dan’s expert leadership, although Paul Cowen managed to suffer the only flat tyre for the day.
Once on the trail the riding was flat and pleasant, enabling us to reach the outskirts of Werribee without getting lost. It was only when we reached the Mercy Hospital that the trail disappeared altogether, leaving us no other obvious alternative other than to follow the Princes Hwy bike lane the remaining couple of km to Werribee.
On the return ride we did find the Werribee end of the trail and then enjoyed several km of delightful cycling until we reached the spot where we had all got lost on the way in. We discovered that the trail actually emerged around 500 km past the hospital, so it was little wonder that we missed finding it. The rest of the ride was accomplished without further incident.
