This ride is a variation on our popular Pakenham to Drouin ride. The ride starts at the car park at the corner of Bald Hill rd and Racecourse Rd in Pakenham and follows the flat back roads down to Longwarry. In this variation we tuirn North and head across the Princes Hwy to the T intersection with the old Princes Highway. This road is now largely deserted and provides excellent cycling conditions all the way into the main street of Drouin, although you do need to be prepared for some serious climbing in the last 15 km. Once you reach Drouin you are rewarded with a rest and a great cup of coffee at one of the bakeries (we prefer the large one on the RH corner about half way through town).
The return ride is significantly easier as you can enjoy the big downhill on the ride back to Longwarry. Note that the return ride follows a different and slightly shorter route directly back to Longwarry.
The total distance is approx 85 km and is suitable for road bikes. Remember to ride single file on the narrower sections of the road. A good flashing tail light would be a good safety asset. This is a very pleasant ride on a warm day when there is not too much wind. In hotter conditions make sure you have plenty of water.
