Yarra Junction to Noojee Ride

This is a pleasant scenic ride starting at the car park at Yarra Junction. We then follow the side road to the historic logging town of Powelltown. This section climbs gently with a few minor “undulations”. At Powelltown there is a General Store/Pub where you can get your last drinks or snacks before Noojee. As soon as you leave Powelltown the road begins to climb steeply as you work your way over “The Bump”. Although this section is challenging it is not very long and the total altitude gain is only approx 200m. Once you are over the top of the climb it is an easy and quiet ride all the way to Noojee where you can stop for a nice lunch in the quaintly named “Red Parrot Cafe”.

After lunch you can begin the steady but not difficult climb back to the base of the Bump. Note that on the day we recorded this ride the return trip was interrupted by a serious motor bike accident a few kilometres out of Noojee. The resulting roadblock meant that we had to undertake an unscheduled detour of several km into the forest along a steep fire access road. This made the trip significantly more challenging than it otherwise would have been. This steep section clearly shows on the elevation profile below and also on the Google Earth overlay.

Most of the roads are relatively quiet, however there are some busy sections where care should be taken.

Total Distance: 85 km
